Arsenal have been dealt a massive blow with the news that star midfielder Jack Wilshere faces a six week spell on the sides lines after suffering a hairline fracture in his foot.
The 22-year-old went down in agony during England’s 1-0 victory over Denmark on Wednesday night, playing 59 minutes. Initially he played down any injury fears after the match, claiming “It is a bit sore, but just a bruise”, but the damage is unfortunately worse than first thought and he faces a chunky spell on the sidelines during Arsenal’s crunch part of the season.
The north London sides medical team have confirmed it is a new injury, finding a crack to a small bone in Wilshere’s left foot – the navicular. He is now expected to face a minimum of six weeks out after yet another international break setback for the Gunners.
Arsenal’s official website confirmed:
Following initial scans carried out by the FA on Wednesday night, further investigation by Arsenal’s medical team has discovered a crack to a small bone in Jack’s left foot – the navicular, an area of his foot which has not been previously injured.
Jack will now require a period of approximately six weeks’ rehabilitation, before starting to regain his match fitness.
The injury is a massive blow for Arsenal’s hopes of silverware this season. With Ramsey still currently sidelined, Wilshere has been a regular feature and a vital cog in the Gunners midfield.
