Jack Wilshere made his return from injury after missing the entire season, playing over an hour for the U21s as they beat Newcastle 3-1.
The 24-year-old has been out since suffering an injury in pre-season, with set-back after set-back keeping him perennially out of the side.
He looks like he may well be in line for a return to the senior side before the end of the season, with even the Euro 2016 Championships in France not totally out of the question just yet.
He played 65 minutes for the U21s this past Friday, and after a slow start began to look more like his usual self. A couple of his characteristic runs almost bore fruit, but his shooting was clearly a little off. He really should have had an assist or two, but Stephy Mavididi and Jeff Reine-Adelaide were unable to apply respective finishes.
Wilshere was replaced by Josh Dasilva in the second half, but just over an hour is good going considering he hasn’t played since pre-season.
There’s obviously no chance Wilshere will be match fit for the game against West Ham tomorrow, but it’s not inconceivable that the midfielder could make a cameo appearance next week.

It would be great to see him back in action before the end of the season, and providing he doesn’t re-injure himself, playing for England this summer could prove a good chance for him to regain match fitness.
