A central midfielder may well have been on our transfer list already, but our need for another player in that position has been intensified following Jack Wilshere‘s latest setback.
Reports were rife on Wednesday night that Wilshere’s ankle injury was much worse than first anticipated and that the England man would spend an extended period on the sidelines.
On Thursday Arsene Wenger confirmed that Wilshere had indeed suffered a hairline fracture and will subsequently miss a number of weeks with the season about to begin.
“I had a bad surprise because it is a hairline crack in his fibula that makes him a few weeks out,” Wenger was quoted as saying on Arsenal.com.

5) Lars Bender
Bayer Leverkusen’s midfield general was heavily linked with us last summer, and after another strong season with the Bundesliga giants Bender would certainly improve our squad.
He is neither a natural holding midfielder, nor a player who requires creative freedom, and would only increase the balance of our side.
