Mario Gotze has apparently turned down a move to Liverpool this summer, but is open to making the switch to Arsenal if an offer comes in, as reported by Bild (via the Express).

The World Cup winner has long been a target of both ours and Liverpool’s, but recently our interest has cooled a little – while Liverpool’s has intensified since the arrival of new boss Jurgen Klopp.
Gotze apparently believes Liverpool would be a step backwards in his career though, and therefore has no interest in making the move to Merseyside.
This definitely makes sense, as Liverpool aren’t even in the Europa League next season and they’ve struggled and stagnated for years now. Bayern Munich are one of the biggest clubs in the world however, so pretty much any transfer would be a step backwards.
That said though, Gotze managed just 14 starts for the German giants this past season, and without regular football he arguably doesn’t have a career. A move to Arsenal would not only provide him with the regular first team football he wants, but would also allow him to remain in the Champions League; a far more enticing prospect than Liverpool.

Despite Gotze wanting nothing to do with Liverpool, his representatives were apparently determined to push the move through (via the Express). The 23-year-old was so adamant that he didn’t want to follow their advice that a rift was created between the player and his representatives, which consequently led to them being sacked.
It seems Gotze is there to be signed if we want him, so the question is, do we need him?
